“An oasis in the drought”
A short 1 1/2 hour drive for a special weekend. With the rest of Texas in a record drought, the Garden Cottage and the river frontage were perfect for our special weekend. Al & Sandra are exceptional hosts, blessed with 30 years on this paradise, they are glad to share their local knowledge and their wonderful property.

The lightest Belgian waffles and the migas for breakfast were wonderful, to say nothing of the pineapple cinnamon rolls.

But the best part was the river. 5-10 feet deep, a long swim to the rope swing on the other bank and probably 1/4 mile to paddle the canoe or kayaks.

This place is so special I almost hate to share it, lest they're booked when we want to return... and we will return.

Last weekend was the annual Poling Cousins' Reunion, and this year's was the best ever. My wonderful aunt, Wendy A., found the perfect location, The Sundown Resort, on the Guadalupe river in the Texas Hill. The river was the perfect way to cool off, wear the kids out, float around while sipping on a beverage, practice our awesome canoeing skills, and laugh at the old men attempting to keep up with the next generation.

My wife and I came down from Frisco TX as a getaway from the kids. It was a beautiful place, fantastic room and Al and Sandra were incredible hosts.
We will definitely come back, but next time we will bring the kids. The river was very clear and cool with lots of fun things to do.

I wanted to thank you again for the best vacation I have had. We enjoyed our stay so much on your beautiful property but especially enjoyed our conversations and your hospitality. It was difficult to leave and I hope we can make it back soon. You all made the stay special and memorable.

Just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we had this past weekend. We are hoping to get another weekend in this fall and are planning to get some other families to rent the entire property next summer.

What a delightful, relaxing getaway for our 45th wedding anniversary. Sandra and Al are very warm and friendly and made us feel so welcome. Sundown is a beautiful location, the Garden Cottage very comfortable and the food is delicious.

This was our first B&B experience and we were a little apprehensive having three active boys. The environment provided us with the relaxation we needed and at the same time kept our three sons entertained. We all wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you for your hospitality.
